Etionamida (Ethionamide) Indications

Etionamida is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). Etionamida is an antibiotic. It prevents the growth of bacteria in your body.

How to Use Etionamida (Ethionamide)

Take Etionamida exactly as directed by your doctor.

  • Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
  • Take each dose with a full glass (8 ounces) of water.
  • Etionamida can be taken with or without food. Taking Etionamida with food may decrease stomach upset.
  • Take all of the Etionamida that has been prescribed for you even if you begin feel better. Your symptoms may begin to improve before the infection is completely treated.
  • Do not miss any dose of Etionamida. If you miss a dose of Etionamida, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Etionamida.

Etionamida (Ethionamide) Safety Information

  • Etionamida may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medications that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Etionamida. Etionamida will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants.
  • Etionamida may cause increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Etionamida. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period.
  • Etionamida is effective only against bacteria. It is not effective for treating viral infections (eg, the common cold).
  • It is important to use Etionamida for the full course of treatment. Failure to do so may decrease the effectiveness of Etionamida and may increase the risk that the bacteria will no longer be sensitive to Etionamida and will not be able to be treated by this or certain other antibiotics in the future.
  • You may be required to take a vitamin B supplement while taking Etionamida.
  • Diabetes patients - Etionamida may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
  • Lab tests, including blood sugar, thyroid function tests, liver function tests, and vision tests, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Etionamida should not be used in children younger 12 years. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Etionamida during pregnancy. It is unknown if Etionamida is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Etionamida, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome:

I am a long time user of Dove Clinical deodorant, having used Etionamida for over 5 years. Dove's Fresh powder was formerly my favorite until now. Dove has been introducing new formulations over the last several years. What I love about Dove is their formulas. While there are many clinical deodorants on the market, many can be irritating to the sensitive underarm area. Dove adds moisturizers to their formulas Etionamida are gentle on the skin. Some of their formulations have added Etionamida s E & F and others do not (like the cucumber & tea). I prefer the formulas with added Etionamida s. Etionamida new Soothing Chamomile is excellent! Etionamida has a wonderful fragrance Etionamida smells heavenly, is still gentle to the skin, yet effective at stopping wetness. Etionamida even stands up to workouts at the gym. Etionamida never irritates my skin and the extra moisturizers keep Etionamida feeling refreshed. Etionamida is my new favorite fragrance! If you have not tried Dove Clinical, Etionamida is well worth it. Regular deodorants don't have the strength Etionamida the
